Baklava with Butter

Ingredients

Ingredients for the baklava:

  • 500 g ready-made baklava pastry sheets
  • 300 g ground walnuts
  • 200 g AOOS butter (melted)

For the syrup:

  • 500 ml water
  • 400 g sugar
  • 1 slice of lemon
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preparing the syrup:
    In a saucepan, boil the water with the sugar and the lemon slice for 10–12 minutes. Add the lemon juice at the end and let it cool.
  2. Layering:
    Grease the bottom of the baking dish with AOOS butter. Layer half of the pastry sheets one by one, lightly brushing each layer with butter. Spread the walnuts, then place the remaining pastry sheets over the filling, again brushing with butter.
  3. Cutting:
    Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes before baking.
  4. Baking:
    Bake at 180°C for about 35–40 minutes, until it turns golden and becomes lightly crisp.
  5. Syrup:
    Immediately after removing it from the oven, pour the cold syrup over the hot baklava.
  6. Service:
    Let it cool for several hours or overnight for a perfect flavor in every bite.
